HOW TO: Install Internet Information Services

Summary

This step-by-step article describes how to install Internet Information Services (IIS) on Windows 7, Windows 2003, Windows 2008, Windows 2012.

Windows 7

IIS can be installed on Windows XP and RMTrack is fully compatable with IIS on Windows 7.

  1. Start -> Control Panel -> Programs
  2. Click the "Turn Windows features on or off" link
  3. Locate the "Internet Information Services" entry and select the following items (note that selecting some of these entries will also automatically select other entries, leave those selected as well):
    • Web Management Tools/IIS Management Console
    • World Wide Web Service/Application Development Featurs/ASP.NET
    • Common Http Features/Static Content
  4. Click "OK" to start the installation

Windows 2003

IIS can be installed on Windows 2003 and RMTrack is fully compatable with IIS on Windows 2003.

  1. Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
  2. Click the "Add/Remove Windows Components" from the choices on the left
  3. Select the "Application Server" item in the list of components and click "Details"
  4. Check the "Application Server Console" item
  5. Select the "Internet Information Services (IIS)" item and click "Details"
  6. Check the "Common Files" item
  7. Check the "Internet Information Services Manager" item
  8. Select the "World Wide Web Service" item and click "Details"
  9. Check the "World Wide Web Service" item
  10. Click "Ok"
  11. Click "Ok"
  12. Click "Ok"
  13. Click "Next" to start the installation

    You may be asked for your Windows 2003 installation disk. If you cannot locate your install disk you cannot install IIS.

Windows 2008, Windows 2012, Windows 2016

IIS can be installed on Windows 2008, 2012 and 2016, and RMTrack is fully compatable with IIS on Windows 2008, 2012 and 2016.

  1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools and then Server Manager.
  2. In the left navigation pane, right click on Roles and select Add Roles.
  3. Click "Next"
  4. Check the "Web Server (IIS)" item
  5. Click "Next"
  6. Click "Next"
  7. Ensure the following role services are selected: Static Content, Default Document, ASP.NET, .NET Extensibility, ISAPI Extensions, ISAPI Filters, Request filtering, and IIS Management Console
  8. Click "Next"
  9. Click "Install"
